Le Massif de l’Estérel: a nature getaway between sea and mountains from Camping La Foux

Less than an hour’s drive from Camping La Foux in Draguignan, the Massif de l’Estérel offers spectacular immersion in a backdrop of red rocks plunging into the intense blue of the Mediterranean. This emblematic volcanic massif of the Var is a paradise for hikers, scenic enthusiasts and outdoor enthusiasts.
A volcanic massif of striking contrasts
Born some 250 million years ago, the Massif de l’Estérel stretches over 32,000 hectares between the Var and Alpes-Maritimes departments. Its red rhyolite rocks, the result of its volcanic past, create a striking contrast with the green of the maquis and the blue of the sea. Classified as a Natura 2000 area for the most part, this unspoilt territory is home to remarkable biodiversity and varied landscapes: steep ridges, deep gorges, pine forests and secret coves.
Emblematic sites include :
- Mont Vinaigre, the highest point at 618 metres, offering panoramic views of the coastline and hinterland;
- the Pic de l’Ours, accessible via signposted paths, offering panoramic views over the Bay of Cannes and the Lérins Islands;
- Cap Roux and Cap Dramont, rocky promontories plunging into the sea, ideal for sunset strolls.
The Corniche d’Or, the legendary road linking Saint-Raphaël to Mandelieu-la-Napoule, winds along the massif, offering spectacular views of red cliffs and turquoise coves.

Hikes for all levels
The Massif de l’Estérel offers a multitude of trails suitable for all hikers, from beginners to experts. Not-to-be-missed itineraries include :
- Tour du Pic de l’Ours, a 1.5-hour loop offering breathtaking views of the coast;
- the climb to Mont Vinaigre via the Col Notre-Dame, a 2h30 hike through dense forest;
- the coastal path between the port of Santa Lucia and the bay of Agay, an 11 km route along the sea with exceptional panoramic views;
