The Parc Zoologique de Fréjus, founded in 1971, is home to over 300 animals spread over a vast, undulating estate. You’ll come across emblematic species such as African lions, Bengal tigers, giraffes, zebras and hippopotamuses, as well as parrots, snakes, crocodiles and giant tortoises.
The walk, which lasts around 2 hours, follows a signposted, shady path, ideal even in summer. Educational panels accompany the tour, enabling young and old alike to learn more about the lifestyles, diets and habitats of the species encountered.
The zoo also offers meetings with the zookeepers, during which visitors can learn about the day-to-day work of the animal staff, the care they provide and the challenges of conservation.
